About Lovettsville Montessori

Lovettsville Montessori School began in 2006 in the home of the founder. We moved to the present location in 2012, allowing us to grow the school to a full primary class of 22 students. In 2015, some of the parents loved the Montessori education for their children so much that we worked to start an elementary community. We now have a full primary class serving children ages 3 - 6 years old, and an elementary community of 15 elementary students ages 6 - 12 years old. We hope to grow in the future, as we are able.

Lovettsville Montessori School is located in a lovely spot, within walking distance of the local grocery co-op, the public library, a coffee house, the rec center and local playing fields. The elementary children walk to these places regularly as part of their PE, or to get supplies for baking, or to check out books for their studies. We are also a quick trip from Brunswick, MD, from which many of our students come. Our elementary students also go there for yoga, or tubing on the Potomac River.
Our Mission
It is our mission to foster an environment of learning. We care for each other and for the natural world around us. We recognize the importance of the child’s family as the first place of love and learning, and we work to continue that safe place for children. We strive toward excellence in the Montessori Method as set forth a century ago by Dr. Maria Montessori in her work and observation of children. We want to best serve the children in their striving toward independence and knowledge about themselves and the wider world. We strive to maintain an optimum Montessori environment for the different stages of development through preparing the environment and allowing the children to be agents in their own growth and education.
“It is true, we cannot make a genius; we can only give each individual the chance to fulfill his potential to become an independent, secure and balanced human being.”
-Dr. Maria Montessori
